Transamerica Receives Highest Score for Workplace Equality

Human Rights Campaign Foundation Gives Transamerica a Perfect 100% on Corporate Equality Index

Transamerica announced today that the company earned a score of 100% from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation on their annual Corporate Equality Index (CEI). This milestone marks the fourth consecutive year that Transamerica has received this distinction. The index is the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey measuring workplace equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) employees.

“From the previously unimaginable impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, to a long overdue reckoning with racial injustice, 2020 was an unprecedented year. Yet, many businesses across the nation stepped up and continued to prioritize and champion LGBTQ equality,” said Alphonso David, Human Rights Campaign President. “This year has shown us that tools like the CEI are crucial in the work to increase equity and inclusion in the workplace, but also that companies must breathe life into these policies and practices in real and tangible ways. Thank you to the companies that understand protecting their LGBTQ employees and consumers from discrimination is not just the right thing to do—but the best business decision.”

For nearly 20 years, the CEI has applied rigorous criteria to rate major businesses on their corporate policies and practices regarding LGBTQ inclusion and workforce protections. The index evaluates several vital factors that impact LGBTQ employees. Factors include non-discrimination policies, equitable benefits for LGBTQ workers and their families, inclusive workplace culture, and corporate social responsibility. Transamerica’s effort to meet all the CEI’s criteria resulted in the 100% ranking and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.

“Transamerica is proud to be an inclusive company, and we are appreciative that the Human Rights Campaign recognized our efforts to maintain workplace equality,” said Holly Waters, Chief People Officer at Transamerica. “The fact that we earned the top score for four consecutive years is a testament to our dedication to diversity. We value the wellbeing of all of our employees, and we will work hard every day to ensure that our LGBTQ employees continue to get the support they deserve.”

Transamerica supports inclusion through Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), including Transamerica PROUD for LGBTQ employees and allies. ERGs, which are open to all employees, host regular events to highlight members’ interests and issues and allow members to provide insight and feedback to the company’s leaders.
