Andy Williams

General Counsel

Andy Williams has devoted his nearly 30-year legal career to representing the insurance industry, including life, health, disability, and property and casualty insurers.

Andy was named Transamerica’s general counsel in 2022. In this role, he leads Transamerica’s Legal & Compliance organization, advising the business, providing strategic partnership, and helping to enable growth while managing risk.

Along with other members of Transamerica’s executive leadership team, Andy is playing a key role in Transamerica’s strategic and financial transformation to America’s leading middle market life insurance and retirement company and advancing the company’s mission to help people live their best lives.

A member of the State Bar of California, Andy joined Transamerica in 2016 and has served in several leadership roles, including head of litigation, interim general counsel, and general counsel for Transamerica’s former Individual Solutions Division. Andy serves as a director of the Aegon Transamerica Foundation Board. He is also an executive sponsor of Transamerica’s Expatriates Employee Resource Group.

Before joining Transamerica, Andy spent more than 20 years as a civil litigator in Los Angeles representing insurance clients, including Transamerica. In addition to his Transamerica responsibilities, Andy serves on the Life Insurance Council of New York’s board of directors.

A native of Toronto, Canada, Andy earned a bachelor’s degree in English from UCLA and a law degree from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles.
