John McCrossan

Interim Chief Risk Officer

With more than three decades of experience in the insurance industry and 10 years as Aegon’s Head of Financial Risk Management (FRM), John McCrossan is well positioned to lead the Transamerica Risk function on an interim basis. As a global Risk partner, John is keenly aware of Transamerica’s strategy of becoming America’s leading middle market life insurance and retirement company. And he knows the vital role that Risk plays in helping an organization achieve its growth strategy in a sustainable and controlled manner. He’s committed to moving Transamerica’s Risk group forward and building upon its strong risk management framework.

As Aegon’s Head of FRM, he oversees financial risks as well as material hedging programs across Aegon (Transamerica’s parent company). John came to Aegon from Aviva where he set asset allocation and investment limits for their European entities, which amounted to more than 100 billion Euros. In an earlier role with Aviva, John designed and executed an action plan to release more than 250 million Euros in regulatory capital.

John is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries UK as well as of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland and is a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary. He is based out of Aegon’s global headquarters in the Netherlands and lives in the Hague with his wife Louisa and their youngest son. He has four older children, three sons and one daughter, living in Dublin and Bermuda.
